Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen Wolio language literacy among elementary school students and teachers through the introduction of illustrated storybooks based on local cultural values. The activity was conducted at SDN Wangkanapi, Baubau City, in April 2026, involving 25 participants consisting of elementary school students. The program employed a participatory approach, including practical training on illustrated storybook creation, intensive mentoring, and classroom-based book trials. The results demonstrated an improvement in students’ proficiency in the Wolio language, accompanied by increased enthusiasm for reading and using the local language. The program confirmed that a local culture-based approach is effective in supporting the revitalization of the Wolio language within the school environment.
